Early winter! More snow on the way

Xmas show

Some creations for a local Xmas show called ArtMakers. It's been fun to indulge that side of me.
I'll post more over the next few weeks.

Art show at Terrazzo Gallery

This hooking is flying off to a new home after the show.
A close up of Rianna Willey's exquisite moths.

Here, and you can see all the changes it went through, is the final version of the rug hooking which will be in the Birds of a Feather show.

I have a show opening this weekend with my brother and niece. Rick has channeled his love of birds into delicate wood carvings. His daughter Rianna creates intricately detailed textile scenes. I will get some images from the show up soon.

I have picked up my rug hooking again. Almost done with this piece. The colors in this pic are a bit off, or maybe it's my monitor. And I have been working on some other projects too, which I will post pictures of soon.

I have just visited with my mom who is 87, and spent time in June with Bruce's parents (who are 87 and 92). All of these elders are beset with daily challenges but their minds are still lively, and they are still engaging and full of humor. My house is always fuller after a visit. I am inheriting all their unfinished projects, to add to all my own. Lots of snippets of fabrics, bits of this and that.
(No wool, sadly). But there is a lesson in there somewhere. I have boxes to go through, decisions to make. It's hard, as someone who loves to make things, to assess these projects and decide what I will actually use and what I should pass on.

It's been a lovely summer here in Michigan. Most of June was taken up with travels to visit family.
Everywhere we went, change was in the air. And the lesson seemed to be learning to live with uncertainty. We have all heard some version of this quote from Heraclitus:

No man ever steps into the same river twice; for other waters are ever flowing on to you.

Sisters

I've noticed a couple of themes coming up in my work recently. One is "sisters". I have 5 sisters and there is always an interesting networking of relationships...

Winter

Winter. It has been cold and snowy without a break, until today. Today the sun is out, ice is melting, and the light is brighter. January I worked in the studio, and started a new rug hooking. February I am feeling the need to connect again to the world but the weather hasn't been too cooperative.

This already looks different, and is sure to go through lots of changes - but here is a glimpse.
